Training for Novice and Experienced Operators
If you are new to plant machinery, we provide structured theory and practical training based on your starting ability. Course duration depends on the machine, your previous experience and the standard you demonstrate during training.
Experienced-operator assessments are available for people who already use the relevant machinery safely and competently. This is an assessment route—not a shortcut for beginners. Candidates must provide an honest declaration of their experience, and additional training may be required if the necessary standard cannot be demonstrated.
What Does NPORS Training Cover?
Although every machine category has its own requirements, training commonly includes:
Operator responsibilities and relevant safety requirements
Understanding the manufacturer’s handbook
Identifying controls and major machine components
Pre-use checks and basic maintenance
Suitable PPE and work-area inspections
Safe travelling, manoeuvring and operation
Category-specific practical tasks
Correct shutdown and end-of-shift procedures
NPORS theory and practical assessments
Our focus is not simply getting somebody through a test. Candidates must understand the machine and demonstrate that they can operate it safely.
Train at Heathfield or on Your Site
Our Heathfield training centre provides a controlled environment with real machinery and focused, practical instruction. One-to-one training gives candidates more operating time and direct support from the instructor.
On-site training is also available across East Sussex, Kent and other areas by arrangement. The site, machinery and supporting inspection documents must meet the required safety and NPORS standards. We will not deliver training or testing using unsuitable or non-compliant equipment.
We regularly support candidates and businesses from:
Heathfield
Crowborough
Hailsham
Eastbourne
Hastings
Brighton
Lewes
Uckfield
Edenbridge

NPORS Cards and NVQ Routes
The correct NPORS registration depends on the industry and type of site where you work.
Operators working in construction will normally require the NPORS/CSCS route. Operators working in agriculture, industrial premises, utilities, warehousing or other non-construction environments may require the traditional NPORS Operator Card instead.
Additional requirements apply to the NPORS/CSCS route, including the relevant health, safety and environmental test and, for the Competent Operator Card, an appropriate NVQ.
Machine Force also provides Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ pathways for a range of plant categories. We can explain which route applies before you book.
